EXCITING NEWS FROM WDCC.
Sunday May 12 2024, the Western District Car Club (WDCC) hosted an exhilarating Women’s Introduction to Motorsport Program at the Geelong Motorsports Complex in Avalon, and it was a day to remember! Held on Mother’s Day, this unique event welcomed 20 enthusiastic participants eager to dive into the world of motorsport.
The action-packed day saw participants honing their driving skills through a series of engaging activities focused on braking, maneuverability, and motorkhana tests. With guidance from a dedicated team of experienced volunteers, including seasoned club members, officials, and competitors across various disciplines like motorkhana, autocross, off-road, and rally, the women were fully immersed in the thrill of motorsport.
A special highlight of the event was the presence of Junior Bosch Motorsport Australia Rally Championship (ARC) Cup Champions, Molly Spalding and Matt Dillon. Participants had the incredible opportunity to experience high-speed passenger rides with Molly behind the wheel, adding an extra dose of excitement to the day.
As one of the pioneering Motorsport Australia affiliated clubs to offer this program, the WDCC continues to showcase its commitment to expanding grassroots motorsport and creating inclusive opportunities for all.
The event also had a heartwarming twist, as Charlotte brought her mother, Naomi, as a surprise for Mother’s Day. Naomi shone with her consistency throughout the day, while Charlotte impressed everyone with her driving prowess. Despite never having driven before, Charlotte not only won the junior award but also showcased remarkable confidence.
“It was really fun, I really enjoyed it, I got better confidence in the car and even though I’ve never driven a car I got to go really fast.
I didn’t have just one favourite part of the event, I loved the whole day and I will 100 per cent come again if I can.
I would recommend it a lot because even if you don’t want to get into racing you get a lot of confidence in the car and it’s really fun.”
